Security service personnel saga: PN and PL reactions

The Nationalist Party rebuked Minister Emanuel Mallia’s presence during the interviews of the security service personnel. In the light of such happenings, PN's statement read that such happenings are unacceptable in a democratic country, and that the Government is trying to meddle with the Security Service interviewing process. In reaction, Government said that Minister Mallia’s presence in no way influenced the choice of the said personnel. Government said that the exact same procedure had been used by the previous PN administration - with the responsible Minister, at the end of the process, approving their employment. Nationalist Party questioned whether the Prime Minister was aware of Dr Mallia's presence during the said process, and if the independence of the security service had been compromised. The Government questioned whether during the Nationalist administration, PN Minister had directly intervened in this process.
