Last night the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) Inshore Patrol Vessel P21 rescued a group of 97 persons from a rubber dinghy that was in distress some 7 nautical miles south of Malta.
Search and Rescue launch Melita II was also dispatched to render assistance. The group is made up of 91 males, 5 females (1 of whom is pregnant ) and 1 baby. P21 is currently underway heading towards Hay Wharf Base and is expected to arrive at 11 pm tonight. The operation is being coordinated by the AFM's Rescue and Coordination Centre (RCC-Malta) at Luqa Barracks.
The migrants are reported to be in good state of health.
The total number of immigrants so far this year has therefore reached the 1000 person.
At the moment there are around 950 immigrants who are spread over the two detention centres the one at Hal Far and the one in Hal Safi.
