Maltco Lotteries Ltd. distributes €50,000 to the Government as part of the Play Responsible Gaming Fund

Maltco visit

This morning The Hon. Chirs Cardona, Minister for Investment, Economy and Small Business visited the main offices of Maltco Lotteries Ltd. This was the 1st official visit made by the Minister. Maltco’s CEO, Dr. Ioannis Katakis expressed his satisfaction with the Minister for finding some time to visit the company. Minister Cardona was welcomed by all Maltco’s Directors and met a number of other employees working in various departments. Dr. Katakis explained that further to the 2nd concession granted to the company to operate for another 10 years, the company has invested solidly in it’s IT infrastructure with an expenditure of 5 million Euros. This investment includes the replacement of all Maltco’s posters with LCD screens in all Maltco’s Points of Sale spread over Malta and Gozo. Dr. Katakis explained that the company started in 2004 offering just 3 games and today it offers 7 games which include, Bingo 75, UBET, Quick Keno, Scratchers and Grand Lottery.He explained that in 2004 there were 181 Points of Sale while today there are 224 of which 12 of them opened in the past year. He also explained that the company is always looking to recruit new talents within the company in various departments. Dr Katakis also referred to the Good Causes fund in which the company hands in unclaimed prizes to the Government. In the past 9 years Maltco has given the sum of €6.5 million for this cause. Minister Cardona congratulated Maltco for the continuous effort and investment the company managed to make and emphasized that the Government’s main aim is to help companies be successful, in order to continue strengthening the Maltese economy.  On behalf of the Government, Minister Cardona received the sum of € 50,000 for the Play Responsible Gaming Fund. Such funds will be passed on and administered by the Lotteries and Gaming Authority. From Maltco’s end, the company organizes regular training on this subject for its’ agents and staff to explain the importance of playing responsibly. Leaflets are also distributed regularly in all Malto’s Points of Sale.
