![Simon Busuttil intervistat minn James Debono fuq Radio 101 3]()
Leader of the Nationalist Party Simon Busuttil said that the opposition is ready to help government in getting Europe to take more immigrants. He said that the situation had both short term and long term solutions. He said that getting Libya to sign the European conventions relating to immigration was a longer term solution given that, while Libya is a wealthy nation, it is still in administrative chaos given the recent revolution. Dr Busuttil, speaking during his Sunday interview said that government did not ask for this help but rather opted to hit the panic button.
Dr Busuttil said that the Prime Minister still has not answered the question as to whether it is acceptable to him that Mr John Dalli, by his own admission, broke the EU Commissioners code of ethics. He said that if this acceptable to the Prime Minister, the the Prime Minister has to shoulder the responsibility for harbouring a person who is guilty of infringing ethics. This will definitely weaken Malta's bargaining chips when the Prime Minister tries to negotiate with the EU. Dr Busuttil said that he had spoken to Mr Dalli prior to the general election giving him the necessary support to enable Mr Dalli to defend himself. Dr Busuttil said that he expected Government not to require the services of a person who infringed the code of ethics.
Regarding the restructuring of the Nationalist Party, Dr Busuttil said that the appointment of a CEO is in the pipeline on the lines of the report and recommendations made by the commission appointed to asses the financial situation. He said that the party is committed to publishing the party finances relating to the electoral campaign. Discussions are underway on time limits to appointments within the party. He said that there is a feeling that this should not be done but, he personally believed that, at a national level, a 10 year span as prime minister should be enough for everyone.
