At 9.55 pm an Off- Duty AFM soldier that was at a barbeque by the seaside, noticed that a Motor Yacht was in difficulty off the Jerma Palace Hotel. After assessing the developing situation, he informed the Operations Center in Luqa about the incident. The AFM Operations Center immediately dispatched the Search and Rescue Launch Melita II to the area. Facing force 6 wind and rough seas, the AFM rescue launch managed to arrive in the nick of time and rendered assistance to the one person on board the yacht and towed the yacht to the nearest safe location. The pleasure craft had earlier developed engine problems and was drifting towards the coast with a high probability of running aground.
The operation successfully came to an end at 1130 p.m. No one was injured in the incident.
