This morning the Operations Centre of the Armed Forces of Malta was involved in a medical evacuation of a Royal Navy Sailor. The master of 'HMS Scott', (a Royal Navy Ocean Survey Vessel) requested medical evacuation of an injured female officer some 30 nautical miles south of Malta.
An Italian Air force Helicopter carrying an Italo-Maltese crew was scrambled to the area in order to effect the transfer of the British patient from the Royal Navy vessel to Malta. The AB212 Helicopter carrying an AFM rescuer safely winched the patient onto the aircraft at 9.35 a.m.
The patient was subsequently transferred to St Luke's Helipad where an awaiting ambulance took the patient to Mater Dei Hospital for further medical examination.
