Update 2: Man drowns in Gozo, girl still missing at sea

Two persons are believed to have drowned earlier this afternoon in Marsalform,  Gozo. The accident happened at around 6pm. An AFM helicopter was deployed on the scene were members of the AFM squadron managed to recover the body of a man beleived to be in his 50's. A girl 15, is still missing and a search and rescue operation is underway in the area known as ta' Xwejni to try and locate the girl. It is not yet known if the two are related however initial reports say that the persons might be tourists. Unconfirmed reports say that a third man who was swimming with teh other two persons also find himself in difficulties but managed to go back to the shore safe and sound. More information soon. ------ Updated at 7.30pm with official Police statement: The Police were informed at about 5pm to assist two persons that found themselves in difficulty while swimming in Xwejni Bay, Marsalforn, Gozo. The Police repaired immediatley on site were after preliminary investigations it resulted that for an unkown reason two persons a 53-year-old French man and a 17-year-old female also from France found themselves in difficulty while swimming in the above mentioned bay. The Armed Forces of Malta were immediatley called on site by means of a helicopter. The man was certified dead on site while the female is still missing. Duty Magistrate was informed about this case and appointed various experts to assist her in the inquiry. Police investigations on this case are still on-going.
