Two Somali nationals were arraigned in court over separate cases of theft and damage to private property. Inspector Luke Bonello told Magistrate Giovanni Grixti, 16-year-old Abdinasir Noor Kinaan stole an iPhone 4s from Albert Nils Johan Karlstrom. The youth was also charged with handling stolen property. The court heard Kinaan plead not guilty and remanded the youth in custody. Moments later, 26-year-old Guled Hussein Jama, also from Somalia was charged with damaging a Suzuki Swift belonging to Roberto and Charmaine Calleja. The incident happened on 12 August at 7:45pm. The youth pleaded guilty. Magistrate Giovanni Grixti handed the Somali youth a two year conditional discharge.
In a separate case, Donnalise Chircop, 25 of Marsascala was remanded in custody after she was arraigned twice in the same morning over different charges. Inspector Silvio Magro, charged the youth with stealing cosmetic products from the Miller Distributors outlet at the Malta International Airport on 13 August. Chircop pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail. However Magistrate Giovanni Grixti revoked bail when the 25-year-old reappeared in the dock charged with trafficking cannabis. Inspectors Arthur Mercieca, Spiridione Zammit and Saviour Baldacchino explained to the court how when arrested, Chircop was also in possession of heroin. The young offender was charged with stealing a Mazda on the night of 4 August and with stealing items from the residence of Ritianne Galea and Matthew Vassallo. The magistrate remanded Chircop in custody and revoked the bail conditions granted to the accused minutes before the second arraignment.
In another case, Saviour Agius, 35 of Fgura was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to drug trafficking and various thefts. Inspectors Arthur Mercieca, Spiridione Zammit and Saviour Baldacchino explained to the court how when arrested, Agius was also in possession of heroin. The prosecution charged the man with stealing four vehicles - a Hyundai, a Mazda, a Suzuki and a Transit. The Suzuki and Transit were damaged during the theft while tools that were in the Suzuki were reported stolen. He was also accused with stealing items from the residence of Ritianne Galea and Matthew Vassallo, stealing a handbag from inside a parked vehicle, handling stolen property and relapsing. Magistrate Giovanni Grixti remanded the accused in custody.
