Two prison warders have been tested positive after urine tests were conducted as part of new procedures implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs and National security with the aim to minimize and eliminate drug abuse at the prisons.
The Ministry said in a statement that such tests are being done both among the prisoners and among warders. The aim, the Ministry added is being done to tackle the drug abuse problem at the Corradino Facility.
The Ministry added that is is totally unacceptable to have new inmates at the prisons who go in clean and come out depending on drugs.
Initial reports indicate that the prison warders that were tested positively were consuming cocaine, but it was stated that the Ministry will conduct further tests to confirm the initial reports..
The Police have been informed of the outcome and will commence investigations.
