Children’s Allowance to be sent three weeks early – Minister Coleiro Preca

Minister for Social Solidarity Marie Louise Coleiro Preca said that Children’s Allowance to be paid three weeks early, next week rather than at the beginning of October. Speaking during an activity in Birkirkara, Minister Coleiro Preca said that the step was being taken to alleviate pressures of the ‘Back to school’ weeks. She said that the idea had been mooted during a public consultation meeting in the Government that Listens series, at the beginning of summer. Minister Coleiro Preca said that the initiative will mean that about 40,500 families will receive €7.5 million euro three weeks ahead of time. In Malta, about 17,500 families with 25,000 children receive the normal children’s allowance, the disability allowance and the foster care allowance. A further 23,000 families, those with the lowest income, receive also a supplementary allowance.
