Malta ranks 37th on Press Freedom scales

Norway is the place for greatest freedom of the press while Turkmenistan and north Korea are the least free. This information was published in the World Press Freedom report this year, which places Malta in the 37th  place, eleven places behind the US who ranked 26th. Together with another 62 countries, Malta is ranked in the 'free' countries together with Sweden, Belgium and Vanuatu. Chile, Israel and Italy are not in this list. The fall in the 'partly free' category. Half the journalists on the Committee to Protect Journalists’ 2013 Impunity Index cover either politics or corruption. That’s just one of the findings of the annual report, which highlights what it describes as 'deadly, unpunished violence against the press' Iraq remains the most dangerous country for journalists: “No convictions have been obtained in 93 journalist slayings in the past decade,” the report says. Nigeria, which was not on the 2012 list, makes this year’s due to a rise in anti-press violence. The report notes that the percentage of world population living in areas where the freedom of the press is limited, is at an all-time low. freedom-house-chart
