Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties, Dr Helena Dalli, visited the Malta Red Cross (MRC) open day which was held recently.
MRC volunteers explained the various tasks they were engaged in to the Minister. The MRC assists the authorities in humanitarian aid and rescue situations. MRC volunteers also gave first aid demonstrations. Minister Dalli said that she is committed to strengthen the dialogue between the voluntary sector and government. Dr Dalli thanked the volunteers of the MRC for alleviating human suffering and improving the situation of the most vulnerable people with absolute impartiality and without discrimination.
The Malta Red Cross was established in 1991. It is recognised by an Act of Parliament as an autonomous voluntary relief society auxiliary to the public authorities and allowed to carry out its activities in the Maltese islands in accordance with the rules and principles of the International Red Cross movement.
