The European Court of Human Rights prohibits the Maltese Government from deporting the migrants from Malta to Libya, said lawyer Michael Camilleri.
Dr Camilleri explains that following an urgent request, the ECHR issued the prohibition notice binding the Maltese Government.
A number of persons, mostly NGO representatives and volunteers are currently holding a protest outside the Police headquarters, calling for the Prime Minister to re-consider the decision to
send the migrants back to Libya.
The volunteers made intentions clear to block buses carrying migrants from leaving.
A chartered airplane is reportedly already on standby at the Malta International Airport, set to take the migrants to Libya at around midnight.
