Prime Minister and labour leader Dr Joseph Muscat was the main speaker at a Mass Meeting organised by the PL on the occasion of worker's day. The Labour Party organised a full day of events at its headquarters in Hamrun. The events included a fund raising marathon to help raise funds for the Party
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that the day marked a very special occasion for him as it marked the 50 days of the new labour government.
He appealed to everyone not to expect changes quickly because what was not achieved in 25 years could never be achieved in 50 days.
Dr Muscat was addressing the mass meeting celebrating Worker’s Day outside the party’s headquarters.
During his speech he emphasized that companies who are known for precarious working conditions cannot expect good condition s from government.
Dr Muscat underlined the importance of job creation and said that the main key for this would be a continuous investment in education. He said that his labour government will be committed to build new schools for the best education of our children.
When rebutting the PN's criticism regarding certain appointments of labour individuals in governments posts and on boards he said : "Cannot a Labourite be awarded a post?”
Dr Muscat also criticized the Opposition's refusal to sit on an economic growth action committee.
