New frontiers for Local Councils

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Councils Jose Herrera said that in the coming weeks, all sittings of the Local Council meetings will be streamed live. He said that this measure, introduced through EU funds, is being taken to increase the transparency of the decisions of the Local Councils. He said that all Local Councils are to have their own Facebook and Twitter accounts as well as a website.  He said that all Local Council secretaries will be receiving training in legal aspects which may assist them in the smooth running of the locality. Speaking at Zabbar. PS Herrera expressed satisfaction at the participation rate of residents in a new initiative taken by the Lcoal Council. Instead of sub-committees, the Local Council introduced Action Groups on Culture and Heritage, Sports and Education and Research and Sustainable Development. Over 100 residents have shown interest in participating and contributing.
