In a seminar held in St Julian’s, the Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations (Malta) presented the results of a survey carried out in 2012. The results showed that the number of students travelling to Malta to learn English increased from 62,200 in 2011 to 81,900 in 2012. The spending power of the students increased by €30 million and reached €135 million. This is about 10% of the total of what tourists spend in Malta. The survey shows also that this sector contributes 22% of the total tourist guest nights.
The survey was carried out by Deloitte’s who noted that the increase was also due to the increased accessibility of Malta.
